$3500? Worth every penny. The rising prices of a collectable always pisses off the long term enthusiasts. Reality is that you couldn't restore one properly for that and this is an original.

I paid about 2100 for a new 80LF in Nov. of 1980 including cover, belt, and a 6 pack of JD oil in pint cans. It was a carryover model going into the 81 season. If you assume a 3% average inflation rate since then, which may be on the low side being we had a couple of years of 12 to 15% in the early 80's, that 2100 LF would cost you in today's money 2100 X 1.03 to the 37th power = 6269. 37 being the number of years since then. Using that rational, the 3500 is a bargain. On the other hand, after you put a couple of hundred miles on it, it reverts back to the current market rate of maybe 1200 or so for one in excellent condition which is a pretty steep depreciation rate for a weekends ride. In 2007 I paid 450 for a pretty decent one that I tried to restore to like new condition, NOS pistons, jugs, bearings, John's seat, Cannon windshield, etc. etc. I have lost count since then but it is probably close to 3000. So if you want one in like new condition and all original, the 3500 is in the ball park. That is my take on it, yours will most likely be different.

If that sled is as advertised, it's worth the coin. Consider that $3500 now is equivalent to $1100 in 1980, way under the market even for a carryover sled. Deere MSRP for a 1980 Liquifire was $3199. That said, the thing on the dash resembles an EGT gauge, although it's hard to tell without a close up picture. What are the odds anyone would go to all the trouble to put one of those on the sled and ride it 73 miles?

By the logic proposed here, a Hemi Cuda convertible should sell for about $35000 based on what it cost in 1970.

I could build an as nice one for $2-$2500, but that's just parts, labor is always free in this hobby!

Although, they didn't make 10,000 1970 Hemi 'Cuda convertibles. You can find a lot of nice 318 automatic hardtop 'Cudas for that and less. If this was an '82-'84, the desirability would help, but in this case, it's not that rare.

I would hate to add the receipts from a complete build on one of my liquifires, but I can tell you the motor alone is north of 1200. But I guess it is all relative to what one feels is to much for said hobby. I personally would not sell mine for less then 3000 simply because then I would have to do it all over again.
