As Paul has mentioned about his X8, my '74 X8 leaks oil out the manifold to exhaust connection. The plastic belt cover is well covered with oil crud. In just the few min I ran the sled the other night, I've already got oil crud on my freshly painted gas tank.
The exhaust pipe does not have a clamp of any kind on it, suppose that would help?
I'm thinking Deere used a special one bolt clamp on these. My 340/5 has one if I remember correctly.
I'm open to ideas.

Leaking exhaust
On each side of the ball coupler I have muffler clamps that hold the ball union tight.
My leak is at the ball and socket itself. This ball unit needs to stay flexible due to engine vibration. Mine will just have to leak. I have tried adjusting the muffler up but it didnt help.

My '74 exhaust system is different, just one ball connector.
JD Parts doesn't show a clamp on the pipe either.

Mine is just like Pauls and it leaks allover. It actually seems to misalign itself from the vibrations. Ive been meaning to try new springs.

I don't remember the '72 400s leaking anything out the exhaust system.
I'm wondering if I'll mess anything up if I clamp the pipe at the manifold, or if it will help?
