I am looking for some opinions for a 79 trailfire 440. I know that originally the snowmobile came with resistor caps, and was recommended to use resistor plugs. I already run non resistor plugs, because they do give me a better spark, but it has come time for me to replace my caps. So... I am very tempted to try regular non-resistor caps. I know that back in the 70s lots of sled manufacturers recommend resistor plugs just so you wouldn't interupt your neighbors TV program, but I also know that most people will tell you that a CDI ignition needs some sore of resistor as not to damage internal components. Does anyone out there have actual experience with running a CDI by running both non resistor plugs and caps??? Like I said, this is very tempting, I could order new resistor caps and wait for them.... Or get caps from my work , install them today and ride tonight.... Thoughts appreciated.

Re: Thoughts on resistor plug caps.
Well I just did it and put in the non-resistor caps, runs great in the shop, I guess I'll have to wait for snow to run a long ride and see how it goes. I guess if my CDI goes within the next year or so I can blame it on that. Either way I'm glad it runs good...for now.

You only need one or the other. By running both resistor caps and resistor plugs, you deminish the spark intenisty.Jdfiddleman wrote:I am looking for some opinions for a 79 trailfire 440.
