74' JDX-4 seat and track

Post by Sparkum »

:letitsnow: :winter: Hello, I have a 74 JDX-4 special that I'm going to be restoring. The seat is totally shot. I need to find new foam for it. Does anyone know where I could get something like that or anyone have a seat that's in good enough shape to recover. I'm also looking for a track for it, any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Pat

Original foam is very hard to come by in perfect shape. What I did, and I believe most guys do is go to your local upholstery shop and show them what you have. They generally will cut away the junk foam and cut a fresh piece to place on top with liquid adhesive. You may need to show them what shape the seat is supposed to be if your original foam is that far gone. It helps to buy a good seat cover for it prior to going in to his shop. That way he can also form fit it exactly to the shape of the seat cover. There are 2-3 guys on ebay who re-produce those covers that you can purchase.

Another fail safe is to send the whole thing into John's Upholstery which is advertised on this site. He would fix the seat and recover it to make it look new again. It also helps to cut out a new plywood base for the seat yourself. They are usually shot from years of decay. I took my original one and traced it on a new sheet as a template and then cut it out. Worked great, and then you don't have that extra cost of having the upholstery guy do it. Hope that helps.
