Howdy All,
I purchased a nice Trailfire Backrest Kit about 3 years ago and have a question regarding it's installation. Do I need to drill a hole in each side of the tunnel, just to the rear of the seat strap attaching bolt, for the grab bar to mount to? I don't see a hole in the tunnel on my 81 TF 440 for the grab bar to mount to. The grab bar ends that contact the tunnel have female threads for a bolt to thread into it from inside of the tunnel. Are the backrest mounting braces strong enough to lift the rear of the sled off the ground like the rear bumper?
As always your help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Backrest Kit for Trailfire Installation Instructions
It's been many moons, but I had a 79 TF with a factory backrest. Both sides of the forward terminus of the horizontal tube were indeed threaded with an attaching bolt through the tunnel as you described and the vertical tubing that held the backrest cushion was bolted to the horizontal tube. That structure served as grab handles for the passenger and a rear lift handle. The vertical tubing will mount in place of the rear lift handle so I'm guessing you're going to be drilling holes to mount the horizontal brace tubing. If memory serves, the passenger seat strap didn't appear until 80 or 81 and was meant to replace or augment the grab handle concept.
