83 Liquifire Engine ID
83 Liquifire Engine ID
I just picked up a 83 LF but it appears that it does not have the correct engine in it. I'm trying to identify what engine is in the sled. The tag on the engine reads TC440A-A201 and the engine number is TC440A-033744. Is the engine number supposed to match the chassis number? Does the engine number belong to a Kawasaki Invader? The sled still has the TR-800 clutch on it, but the ignition system looks more like an 80/81 system according to some else that I shared a picture with. Thanks for your help.

Re: 83 Liquifire Engine ID
TC440A is the correct engine for a Liquifire. The rest of the number will NOT match the sled's serial number. If you need us to help you determine the electronics on the engine you'll need to take a picture. I will tell you that the plug wires will come out of a square box if you have the HSR system. DA

I took some more pictures last night. It does not have the HSR ignition system on it. Still trying to determine what engine is in the sled, or what parts are still 83 and what is 80/81 if thats the case. Were the carbs different for 83 or will they visually look the same from 80-84? The sled has the TR-800 primary clutch but is the secondary correct? Thanks, I appreciate any help.

I see in your pictures that you have the C heads. These are Deere heads. the Your tr800 drive clutch is right. Your carbs look right. The 83 carbs should have been jetted different from each other. The PTO side a little richer than the mag side. You do not have the HSR ignition set up. Your original wiring has been altered. I am guessing to accommodate the more readily found Kawasaki Invader ignition system along with its electronic housing the Kawasaki / Arctic Cat rewind is bolted to.
I am making a big leap here but I believe at some point someone very resourceful changed your ignition system.
That damn sticker TC440A-A20? would tell you what sled the housing came from and might provide you with a clue as to where the rest of the ignition came from. I am thinking Invader but do not own one to check for you.

Thanks for the reply.
Would that TC440A tag correspond to the year if it was complete? A201 for 81, A202 for 82, etc?
