A few Deere sleds
Re: 1977 JD Cyclone 440
Tony, I have found that I can find the jugs, pistons, rings, and heads easier than you can find the whole engine. I'm working on a 76' Cyclone right now, and I took it down to the case, split the case, changed one bearing that was bad on the crank and built it back up. Like Brian says, I just bored the cylinders with new pistons/rings, freshened up the heads and a complete gasket set. Has compression like from the factory.
Even if you find a 440/22, you will likely have to do similar work to it anyway, as they've all been pretty used over the years.
He's also right that we're nut jobs who spend money on these sleds to ride them around the woods until we have to rebuild them AGAIN! Fun hobby though.

Here's the finished engine. Take your time and do it right, they'll run well for a long time.
