82 Sportfire oil injection reliability

Post by yfzracer912 »

A fellow John Deere sled friend of mine wanted to know how reliable the oil injection Was on his 82 Sportfire. He puts a ton of miles on his vintage sleds like his Sprintfire with 16000 miles. Has anyone ever have issues or reason to think it will fail? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The pumps are reliable. On the Sportfire, it's driven by a flexible shaft through the flywheel, so that shaft should be inspected. The nozzles in the intake manifold have check valves that can get stuck so if you're working on one that's been sitting, those should be checked and cleaned.
