A month and a half out!

Time flies. The RWTC week is always a long way out, until it is here. Christmas is behind us, so it is time for preparations to be made.

As I write this, the word is that the SHOF is planning the RWTC as normal. The Covid spike that hit the state from Labor day to mid-November is finally easing. Not over by any means, but we did not see the predicted spike after Thanksgiving, so I hope there is none after Christmas as well. There are no restrictions in WI other than a couple urban areas.

So what does that mean for the RWTC in practical terms? I don't know. Going out riding doesn't concern me, but the social aspects do. I have seen that some of the bars are saying they plan to do outdoor dining around a fire pit. That will work fine as long as the weather is reasonably temperate. It looks like each of us will have to play it by ear and do what we are comfortable doing. The wife and I could possibly be vaccinated by then, but who knows for sure right now.

Katy and I plan on attending, we just aren't sure how we are going to do it. If you read my write-up of last years event, you will know why I have some trepidation. I was exposed to a bug the night before we left last year, and pretty much everyone I had contact with on Wednesday and Thursday caught it. Highly contagious to say the least, and we all had it for a month, it sucked! The symptoms were very similar to Covid, but the guy I caught it from tested positive for the regular flu, and my wife tested negative for Covid antibodies in August.

Anyway, it was a real world demonstration of how transmissible a virulent bug can be doing what we do. So I can't help but keep that in mind as we go forward.

If anyone has any good ideas, feel free to share them. I have been sitting at home for the past 9 months, I would really like to get out of here and go ride!

Craig Marchbank is saying that later this week ( 30th or 31st ), he will be posting a video on the SHOF Facebook page.

It sounds like he will be talking about the 2021 RWTC.

I keep in touch with Jamie about it, and after the year I've had (Covid is the least of it) I am looking forward to hitting the trails and hopefully visiting friends. Although I retired from the board, I have offered to guide the Bogie Bash and the Vintage Challenge once again and Brian will be volunteered to help me of course.

I went so far as a few days to my hotel reservation, as I plan to finally put more than 220 miles on my 'new' Cat, and maybe, just maybe ride a Dator farther than a mile...

Hello Brian,
Not for sure if we are attending 2021. Room is reserved. It is a personal choice for each (unless the powers to be say otherwise). My feeling now is to avoid the parts of the event that are indoors. Any old Arctic Cutter Kitchens out there? Burgers on the trail always taste better anyways. Not planning on bring a leaf spring sled this year. Trails on Saturday last year were a bit on the rough side (busy weekend) and we are planning on doing some additional riding in the UP after the HOF.

Hey Keith, glad to see you comment.

I suspect that there will be a wide range of feelings on this subject, I am conflicted about the indoor events. We had Christmas outdoors here with our kids and grandkids, because that is what they wanted. I don't disagree about the trail food, as long as the outside temps are tolerable. We know Craig has the sled powered blender!

They are grooming in the UP as I type this, so things are getting started.

Right now, I am waiting to hear what Craig has to say before we make any decisions.

The highlights:

The indoor activities have been canceled, the inductions will be carried forward to next year, a ride is planned with a bonfire and food at the SHOF. The price of admission $25.

We plan to go, we'll work out more details as we go.
