Guys been playing with jdx8. I was pretty much a Skidoo guy my whole life. Only owned a Yamaha ss440 the rest all skidoo before this jd. I recently purchased this 77 440 Everest as always wanted one growing up.

I will say this. The jd absolutely waxes the 440 in about 10” of snow. Even on hard pack no comparison.

Its quite surprising the difference. Im going to do a little clutch tuning on everest but seems like quite a difference.

Can you refresh my memory? What was the Everest's advertised mission?

Both of those sleds are in great shape. Nice finds.

The Everest was just a two up trail sled. There was a Moto Ski version also.

Its surprising the difference. I believe the Everest 440 is a tick over 40hp. The jdx seems way healthier than that. I’ve been adjusting clutching on Everest and the gap is narrowing. The Everest is definitely not as tippy with front mounted engine thats for sure.

Looking back it sure would've been interesting to see if Deere would've made any money in snowmobiles if they had elected to proceed with the front engine design from the outset of production.

Not that certain mid mounts weren't crazy cool to drive once you figured out how to operate properly and now the industry has essentially embraced a glorified mid mount design with all kinds of suspension.....

340 was 34hp all three years. 440 was 46hp in 76, 44 in 77 and 78.

It would be interesting to do a side by side handling comparison between the current mid mount system vs the Blitz Black.

I would say for what it is, the 75' JDX8 is a major handful when it comes to power in a mid-mount sled! I was told recently from a close friend who has all of the later model Liquifires, he test rode my X8 just to give it some exercise, and he couldn't believe the amount of power and how hard it pulls.... Said other than his fastest Liquifire, this X8 was no slouch, and could probably keep up in most cases. I would attest that's probably true.
