Help 340 Trailfire

Hi guys can someone out there tell me what stock gearing on the 340 is and was the clutching in the primary and secondary the same as a 440 trailfire …..and what is the Center to Center and how can I align the clutch’s up with out a tool….
This was a barn find that was a LX but came with the 340 in it…
Any help would be awesome ….thanks

Lots of questions and info you need! vintagesnow.com might have a service manual and you can search the parts diagrams on Deere's website. It has the same photos used in the original parts books. Trailfire is just one listing, so you can easily see which clutch parts are the same between the two. From memory, the primary and secondary springs are the same, the cam on the secondary clutch is definitely different. I'm not sure if the primary clutch weights are the same but I'm guessing maybe not. The service manual will show the clutch alignment specs. You can get them darn closely aligned by using 3/8" bar stock if you don't want to invest in an alignment tool. Gearing on the 340 was definitely different than 440, but you can probably get away with using the 440 ratio.
