Asking a question I do not know much about. Looking for any helpfull thoughts or guidence.
I have a 440/5 motor out of '74 600. Pistons/rings are shot and cylinder walls are scored. If i were to have the cylinders bored out, Who makes and oversized piston that would fit? Would be a 68 bore/60 stroke piston and looking to go .020 over. Does Wiseco make pistons that will fit? or anyone else? Is this project even possible? Anyone else run into a project like this? I would really like to keep the original motor in the sled if possible. It has been in the family since 1978.
Thank you for any insight into this project.

Re: 440/5 cylinder resizing question
The 440 piston port pistons have been hard to find for 20 years. There has been some talk of having them reproduced, but to date that hasn't happened. They show up for sale infrequently, I believe some were offered for sale on Face Book in the last couple of months.
One way forward would be to buy a 440/22 complete with exhaust system, and swap it into the 600 until such time that you find parts for the original engine. We have been able to find pistons for the /22, but as with everything right now, supplies are pretty much sold down or out at the moment.

Re: 440/5 cylinder resizing question
Hello again,
Question about your last reply about finding a 440/22 motor and swapping it to replace the 440/5 motor in a John Deere 600, question, the exhaust system looks Different than that on the 440/5. It will still fit and work in the 600? Thanks for the help,
Michael

Re: 440/5 cylinder resizing question
I have put a 440/22 with the exhaust that goes with it in a 400-500 tunnel. I am not positive on the particulars because it has been a while. You may have to cut an opening in the pan for the exhaust to exit. You may also have to bolt the muffler plate to the underside of the motor plate to make it fit the best.
First pic is a 340/5 system. The second is a 440/21, but it has the /22 muffler on it. I realize you can't see much there.
