Bulkhead rivets

Post by nick80lf »

Yesterday I took the plunge and separated a bulkhead from a tunnel for the first time on a Liquifire. Let me say you guys that normally do this are animals. I found this to be one of the most miserable jobs I have ever done. These seemed to be the most difficult ro remove rivets I've seen. During this adventure I was thinking these can't be the typical steel rivet you pick up at the local hardware store. My OCD got the better of me and after spending half a day on the interwebs it turns out these are Q type structural rivets made by Avedel (Avedel Cherry....which I think might be owned by Stanley Engineered Fasteners now). I found this discovery sort of entertaining. The company I work for has built machinery for Avedel and I had the pleasure of being in one of their plants many years ago (guess I should pay more attention to the parts being made).

I will post some literature later.

Here's a link to a website where you can download a catalog. https://www.avdel-global.com/en/product ... rivet.html

I was looking at old post and realized I could add some detail to this. At least on the 82 liquifire Deere used two different lenght rivets. I ended up purchasing SSPQ64 and SSPQ66. It's been awhile but from what I remember most of the rivets were the shorter ones. Didn't use a large quantity of the longer ones. The tunnel cooler comes to mind as one of the locations where the longer rivets were used.
