Color code on engine plug

Post by Popcorn popper »

Would anyone have color code on engine plug that sits on top of recoil area. Think this one might be off.

I see this one has black coming out the top on engine but white color on other side.

81 liquifire. This sled has been a nightmare. Rebuilt engine and carbs etc. cannot get to start most of time. Acts like timing off. Replaced cdi box with another used one and same. Replaced stator and flywheel same thing. Real sob. Got me completely baffled. Maybe two bad cdi boxes??? Backfiring and farting around something terrible. New coil and wires

Check your exhaust for a blockage. Did you replace the Power Jet O rings in the bottom of the bowls?

I’ll check pipe. Yes orings replaced a couple times. I’ve never had a sled act like this one. Thought crank out of phase but that seems good. The ccw engines seem way better to get up n running.

That looks correct to me. Here's that portion of the wiring diagram. The black wire of the CDI is connected tobthe with wire in the harmes and the brown wire if the cdi is connected to the black and white wire in the harnes. The reality is when the key switch or kill switch is in the position to stop the engine, they are basically connecting the black and brown wire of the cdi together to "ground out" the CDI.

Have you tried unplugging the rev limiter? I believe on the 81 the rev limiter is mounted on the bottom side of the dash, unplugging the 3 pin connector on that box and see if things improve.

Thankyou. Yes i unplugged the rev limiter, then actually unplugged harness and tried again in case wiring issue. Same thing. It seems all of a sudden it will fire and run not bad. But soon as warm wont go again. Only thing that’s a little different maybe i think fuel pump was changed from original. It fits tight against right carb. I put kit in it but maybe its from bigger sled and over powers needle n seat. Shouldn’t affect it on starting you wouldn’t think.

Warm starts seem to be an issue with these. One of mine, if you stop along the trail for over 5 minutes you better plan on 30 minutes. Backfiring doesn't sound normal. My mind goes to a lean condition when I hear backfire but it could be an ignition timing / flaky CDI issue also.

Were they noted for this hard starting new? I know the skidoo rotary valves would do this. It was a flooding issue, we used to put easy access fuel valves on those.
