Hey Spitfire guys

Post by jrbsnow »

I was wondering which version of Spitfire people seem to like the most? The older ones, or the newer ones? Which engine was more reliable? Did Deere improve anything for the newer Spits? I had a 1981 Spitfire that I sold a few years ago, but I never had it running right. I imagine it would have been a pretty fun sled if I would have finished it. It would rev up, lift the skis, then bog down and almost die. I just thought I would ask what you guys prefer. Thanks, Jay

Its my opinion that the 78's are better
-Mikuni slide carb easier to work with and better performance
-Kohler motor is bullet proof, I ride mine hard and cannot kill it.
-Jd green is alot sharper color
-bulkhead is stronger and I think it has a slightly wider ski stance, my 78 has offset spindles
-stock equipped handle bar pad
-skid geometry is different, it has two bogie wheels to carry the track on top

Our Spit has a 28mm slide, the decal on tunnel is damaged ,I thought it's a 79', but a guy at drags said because it has black around head lite and Mik slider ,it's a 78'. He said that 78's are not that common, any truth to this stuff ?

The info he gave you was precise and accurate.....in fact, I was probably the guy you were talking to if it was at the vintage drags in Govan, Sask. I thought I was wrong once, but I was incorrect.
