JDX8 wont start

Post by JDman21 »

My carb is clean and has a new kit in it. I have good spark at plugs. Plugs seem to be getting wet, so it must be getting gas, but it wont even fire. Im lost Any ideas?

The spark is more of a blue. There is a little orange, but more blue. A while ago my battery was running low and I had the battery charger on it. When It pulled them off I hit something and every since then my electric start doesnt work without putting a battery cahrger on it. Right after I put the charger on it works though.

Did you try putting some fuel down the plug holes (not a lot), it should fire if there is spark.

Changed lines and carb spacer. Got it to fire a couple times, but really no luck. I would hit the gas and nothing would happen.

Can you give us some history on this sled? Is this a machine that you had running in the past or is this one that you just bought and put a carburetor kit in prior to running? This is just from my own experiences, but it seems that the setting the book gives for the idle circuit never applies to me. I think on the Walbro it tells you 7/8 or 1 round out. I don't remember exactly. From your earlier post I had a similar problem. I had the idle circuit set too rich. I would choke it and pull my guts out and the engine would never hit. I removed both plugs and turned the key off. Make sure the key is off or the spark will ignite the gas soaked rag! I put a rag over both spark plug holes and pulled the rope 3 or 4 times, this blew all the gas out of cylinders. I reinstalled the spark plugs, pushed the choke in, turned the key on and held the throttle 1/2 open. Pulled again and it would start. It would run fine until it loaded up again. Pumping the throttle would cause it to die. I had it set too rich. I had to turn the idle circuit in 1/4 of a turn at a time repeating the same steps until I could get it to run. I think in the end I was maybe 1/2 to 3/4 a round out on the idle screw. Another clue to my problem was that I had 2 cycle gas leaking at every exhaust joint and out the muffler. If you do get it running make sure to check the color of your plugs after a little run.

I think I've had the sled for 4 years. 1st year ran good. 2nd year never ran good at all. Last year after I got it working good it worked great. This year got in out got it running great. Probably the best it ever ran for me. But no snow so I put it away for a month or two and got it out again and wouldnt start. All my problems Ive always had were carb problems. Except between my 2nd and 3rd year I swapped engines because of crank shaft seals. The engine that was in it wasnt the stock JDX8 motor and the one I put in is.

There is some oil on the exhaust side of the engine. That cant be good. I took the exhaust manifold off to see if it would start maybe the exhaust was plugged. It didnt start.
