I have a 1978 79 Spitfire and would like to put new sliders on it. Do these come out the back or do you have to take out the whole track and suspension and pull from the front. I hope not but I could not find anything on the back only a stopper on the front underneath that could come off. Thanks for the help and love the site.

I believe you need to drop the suspension. Not too difficult

Do yourself a favour, when you have suspension out you'll probably find aluminum shafts are seized in. Remove them and install a couple of grease nipples in tube. If you have access to a lathe turn down shafts where welds are on suspension tube,.015-.020" is lots. you can do this in a couple more spots if you like, and grind a small gallery to allow grease to travel along shaft.Check limiter strap, and bearings in drive shaft as well.

Good idea Basktdator. I believe the shaft bearings are JD8562. These are still available from Deere.
Careful trying to take the shaft out as the aluminum distorts easily.

Thanks to all that replied his is all great advice. You guys know your sleds. This is my first snowmobile and am glad that it was a JD. It ran like a champ. I head the Kohler motors are great I can attest to that. I had a lot of fun on it this winter. Gives ya something to do when everyone else is cooped up in the house. Thanks again. Matt
