Get yourself a spray bottle, fill the bottle with a 50:1 mix and spray the mixture directly into the carb, about 5 pumps. Do not choke it, then try starting it. Let us know the results.

I changed carbs and I got it to fire a couple times. I didnt spray any gas in the engine. Could I possibly have a bad mix of gas?

There is a good amount of oil coming out the exhaust. Bad mixture maybe?

Are you using fresh premixed 50:1 gas? I think it was "Take It To The Limit" who was talking about how gas will get stale within 4 to 6 weeks. If you are trying run gas that was premixed and has sat in the tank for several months with no stabilizer in it this could be your problem. I would still try what Danzig suggested with squirting some fresh gas in the carb and see what happens. If it fires up and runs this would answer some questions. Hang in there and keep trying! We've all been there. Let us know the results.

The goo running out the exhaust is most likely unburned fuel.

I have good spark in both cylinders. If you read in my earlier post about my electrical problems could that have screwed up my timing? Also my fitting on the tank where the lines hook up. The two pieces coming up are loose. Could this may be sucking air?

Loose fittings will suck air. I do not think your timing is a problem, have you checked it?

From an earlier post you stated that the spark was blue but saw some orange. Orange is a weak spark. If your plugs are wet you are getting gas. If its running out the exhaust manifold you are probably flooding the engine because of weak fire. I suspect one of two things going on here. You either have a weak coil or dirty and worn points. Without the proper testing equipment it is impossible to tell about a coil. Some people say that a coil is either good or bad. They can be weak as well. I would look at the spark again. My guess is you will find one side firing weaker than the other. This might explain the hit but not starting and running. Before you tear into the points, if you still have the old engine I would try a known good coil from it. You will know because you should see a bright blue and maybe white flame from a grounded spark plug. You will also hear a distictive snap when the plug fires. When you do get your coils off look at were the plug wire goes in. There is a screw that you twist the wire onto to secure it in the coil. These are known to burn off over time. If the coils do not help I would look at your points. Most of the time they are dirty and pitted. They can be filled and the gap reset and work just fine most of the time. Hey we're all pulling for you here. There is nothing worse than having a Deere with snow on the ground and not being able to ride.

I had it fire a couple times, but no luck. I might put it away til summer and make it a summer project. Go through it all good. There is finely snow on the ground and I want to go, so now I'm looking tonight for a quick cheap buy. Deere would be nice to find.

I lost sleep over a sled that doesn't run. But I can understand the frustation though. Sometimes you just have to walk away. I've had good luck fixing them with determination but not much luck when I mad at them.

I want to get it going now but I've got too many other things going on. I want to wait til I get my tractor fixed and out of the garage so I can focus all my attention on the Deere. I dont really want to sell anymore unless the price is right. I really want to see this run next winter. I am thinking about restoring it completely.

Is it possible you just have bad gas, I mean I buy gas from one station that my 97 sx 700 runs like **** on. I come home smelling like I just got off a 73 sno jet. When I fill up at the marathon station 3 miles away I get great performance. Heck we tried to light a bonfire with the other gas last year and gave up. Its not uncommon to get water or bad gas according to geographical location. I burnt the same sled down twice buying gas at one gas station before realizing , It was the gas. I quit getting fuel there, and woo hoo! I never had a problem. I only caught on as the other guy in our party that fueled up there burned down later that same day. The sled I burnt down was my wifes Polaris triple. I didnt fuel my yamaha there as it got almost twice the mileage. Sounds like a story but unfortunately a true one. We complain to the owners of the local gas stop here all the time, and they say hey we got new tanks a couple years ago. Ill tell ya, the bikes run like crap, the sleds run like crap, the lawn mower barely runs, and well my dodge truck ran great till I was in a pinch one night and got gas there, (We got stranded goin racin one time cause the bronco we were haulin with was breathin thru two holes the diameter of a pencil( ice build up). But you need to start with the squirt bottle like previously suggested. If the sled had sat for a while, its possible putting some oil in the cylinders may help it seat the rings to get it goin. But if you are gettin fuel in the exhaust, its likely you are gettin fuel transfer in my opinion. If you think its flooded, take an acetylene torch and pump oxygen into the mouth of the carb, it will start eventually. Is it possible you have too mush starter draw? Oh god ill dtop here, lol Doug
