Problem finding gas cap

Gentlemen:
Does anyone know where I could find a gas cap for an 81 LF? Dennis Kirk's listed for the sled are a little too small. Thanks!

Ken. I was under the impression that Image had a replacement cap for the 83-84. Can anyone confirm this? Peter

Peter, not sure if Image has any more of the gas caps b/c in general i would think they would go like wildfire...Have you tried Als Snowmobile? Ive had great luck with them! Just another alternative if no dice from Image.

I found a replacement at a Deere dealer. It has no bayonet, but they said that they could order one. I forget the part number, but I saved the box. I'll check when I get home and post it in Gen. Talk next time I get to the library. I posted it about a year ago when I found it.

I'm using the cap from a JD 316/318/322/420 lawn tractor. The 332 is red as it is a diesel. The tractor cap works great but it reads "full" for awhile as the neck is longer on the lawn tractor. My friend bought a generic "silver face" cap on ebay for the tractors to put on his sled. It doesn't have the same "twist" on the guage and reads perfect. If ya have to be anal original, you could follow Rodimus' lead and just replace the lens from one for a lawn tractor as they are identical albeit the grips around the outside.

I see that sport mart has some caps listed, They are manufactured by Kelch. I havent tried one, but they are 14.95 in there o6 07 catalog. I also have a spitfire one, if that would work. It isnt the gauge, but is the stick instead? Sport mart 586 791 8140, otherwise try GPI in crystal Michigan, i dont have their catalog any more, but they have a ton of nos and repro vintage stuff! They own the patent to skiroule, I know that doesnt matter, but hey, i had to say it, lol. It looks like the id is pretty standard, but the gauges are offered in 9" 12" and 13" Doug

I found one at my local co-op farm supply centre, it is for a kohler small engine, it has a fuel guage on it similar to the original and it has a closeable breather plug on it. it doesn't have the John Deere emblem on it but it was only $14.00 cdn.

You can try Parts Unlimited. I believe they carry caps for up to 1982 sleds.
