One of my 1980 liquifires was running very strong, I parked it for a couple of days inside. When i went to start it, it started harder than normal and when I pulled it out of the shop it boged quite bad and quit. I got it running again, but while pulling and then while running it would backfire and puff out the exhaust and had no power at all. It has good compression on both sides, I tested the spark with an inline spark tester, and it seemed good on both sides. could it be the CDI box or maybe the timing or crank seal??
Does anyone have any suggestions where to start? Thank you guys I do love this site, and thank everyone who responds to the forum.

What do your plugs look like after it kills? First thing i would do is try a different set of plugs, BR9ES-NGK. If that doesnt cure it then spray carb cleaner on the crank seals and carb holders, jugs and see if the rpm goes up. Try that first and let us know.

Dirty carbs will cause your bog and backfire. Don't forget..."don't move the sled until the temp gauge moves".

Grasscutter You have to let it warm up that long. I just start and go I might give it 30sec or so. BOB

I drive it slow the first half mile or so. What is the proper procedure for engine warm up?

i would say that you have a sticky needle in the carb or a bad needle and seat and it filled the crankcase full of gas.

Hello guys, thank you for all of the replies. I still havn't figured out for surre what is wrong, I am waiting for a new coil and cdi to arrive. What should a person do when you flood the crankcase, gan you blow much of it out with compressed air or what should I do to remove the excess fuel?
Thanks again

Nothing you have to run it. I had the same problem untill i put in a shutoff valve. You might want to think about doing that it will help. Nice Collection. BOB

If you store the sleds with the backend up or carry them in a pickup with the backend up fuel shutoffs need to be installed This will take care of the problem.
To be the fuel out of the crank case when its full of gas pull the sled outside pull both plugs out MAKE SURE the IGN is OFF & pull the motor over untill the gas doesn't come out of the sparkplug holes any more, reinstall new plugs & start motor. Repeat as necessary.

Hey Pion
Whre did ou find a DI?
Mine runs fine for a few minutes, then runs terrible. No power. Both plugs seem to fire. It will rev to 4000 but has a hard tim getting over this. Then asuddenly it runs decent. I was thinking my plug coil is bad. How can I test the CDI

I am not sure how you test a CDI, I had read a posting from a while back on how to rebuild a coil but it seemed a bit over my head, I have three sleds, so I took a CDI off of the one that was running and switched it. The machine ran quite well so I ordered a new CDI to replace the swaped one. I ordered it from Agri sports out of Regina, they are very good to deal with, the CDI was $99.00cdn and a new coil is $ 49.00cdn. Hope it helps.
