New owner of a liquidator

Post by hvyhorsepwr »

My wife knew I was interested in this sled....when it was at $1250.00!! She took it apon her self to bid and get it. Little did I know, the last few minutes, the bidding got a bit intense. SO...when she yelled ...you got it!!!.... I was quite suprised and shocked at the price. Which brings me to the $100 question......what are these liquidators worth?

I see you all are very versed in the values as well as knowledge which I am in the dark on these sleds. I would appreciate any feedback on the sled as well as possible help on parts as I find out what it needs. Hopefully I am ok on the price as there is nothing to do about it now!

Your feedback will be greatly appreciated!!

PS. Mike, aka Greenxcracer....hope you can help out with some information if possible as I see you have quite a collection.

THanks again guys!!

first congrads.

nice wife, my wife makes me sell one before i can buy one. anyway you will find most of the answers you need tech wise on this site most of the people on here are fairly knowedgeable about their deeres. about the hundred dollar question what is it worth? this question has been asked and dicussed many times here on these pages with no real answer ever found so in responce to the question. your liquidator is worth what ever it's worth to you. some think that they are worth hundreds and the next guy you talk to thinks they are worth thousands. it really comes down to sentimetal value more than material value and how bad you think you need to own one. when i got my dator i paid $150.00 for it. after many late nights and many dollars and five years i got to here it run for the first time. at that point hearing the first untuned spit and sputter i felt that it was priceless. since than new progects have came in to the picture, bigger and better things with that happening i feel that i could maybe put a price on it for sale and it would only be worth what i ask for it if someone would pay me that for it. talking in circles huh! anyway congrads again i hope you enjoy and have as much fun with your dator as i have had with mine. and remember it all about the fun.

Your wife is amazing. Mine HATES my sleds.

Dators are worth a lot, though of course it depends on the condition. Really nice ones have gone for $6000 or more lately. Fair ones for around $2000 from what I've seen on ebay.

Enjoy it!

My first Dator cost me $1100 and it came from northern Canada and my last one cost me $2000 also from northern Canada. Price is all what somebody is willing to pay. The sled that sold last winter for $6000 was not as nice as the one I just paid $2000 for ( I saw the sled and actually sat on it.) It all depends on who's looking. I love my 5 Dator's and treat them like my children. I am especially fond of my I-500 raced sleds. I have a lot of sleds and if I keep any of them it will be the Dator's. Enjoy that sled. I have to warn you though, they are addictive. I couldn't tell if that sled had the correct seat though. If not let me know and I will get you one. Mike

Thanks for the replys!

Mike, not sure if it has the right seat but pretty sure the guy said the seat is bad and that thru emails, (possibly from you or some other knowlegeable sledder) that the seat is not the right one. I am not sure whats on it as the pics are bad. Hopefully the rest of the sled is ok. I am having it picked up this week if all goes well and will be reporting on it to the board as soon as I get some pix of it.

Seems we may have been a little generous on the price but the fact that there were two other bidders there who may have put in a couple additional $$s makes me feel that I am ok with the costs. The questions of what needs to be replaced is yet to be determined.

THanks for the responses and future information as I am surely going to need guidance on this one!!

Eric, Here is the picture from ebay.
It does appear to have the wrong seat on it. My guess is it is from a Liquifire.
The correct one would have snaps on the side and cover down the side of the tunnel right up to the yellow decal. This one shows it is short ...........
It is a great looking sled ....

I don't think you paid too much for it. It looks like a nice sled and if I had the cash I would have gave your wife a run for her (your) money. Mike

Your comments are assuring that I didnt get taken by the looks of it. If I am correct, there should be a trucker picking up the sled as I am typing this! As long as the weather holds out, I should have it home sometime on Friday

:D !

I will snap some shots and post them to see what "we" are dealing with! I am pretty confident that the seat is incorrect. As far as the handlbars, I have seen a few different types.... Hopefully we wont find too much wrong with it.

Until later.......Thanks again for your input !!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Thanks for your input. Sounds like I am ok with the price as long as there is nothing major wrong with the sled.

As soon as I get it home, I will snap some shots of it and post them for review. From the prior conversations, I am confident that I am going to need a seat as well as a couple of other parts.

Again, thanks for all of "your" input!!! Until then.....Happy Thanksgiving!!!

That is not the original seat. I would suggest that when bidding on ebay and not sure what your looking at . You should request more info and pictures from seller. I did and this seller did a great job shining up the outside. The inside <under hood > was missing key parts and was all rusted out. Looks to have ben set outside for the last 20 years. If them pipes dont have rust holes than i would be surprised. The dator listed before was in much better condition and complete minus the seat foam for restoration. Buyer on the first received an excellent bargain . That would have ben my choice.
People tend to get a little caught up in ebay auctions . My sugestion would be to become knowledgable on the product before you bid.
