My battery was going low once so I put a battery charger on it and when I pulled it off I hit something and a lot of sparks flew. Now the only way it will work is if I put the charger on it. It turns over right away. I have 12 volts all the way to the starter. Without the charger on it turns over if I touch a wrench to both ends of the solenoid. I was thinking maybe the key switch is fried or possibly the solenoid. Also where are the points and condenser on my sled?

As stock 73 has points. I would get a solenoid for the starter.

If you put battery voltage to the small wire connection on the solenoid does it work?
That would be the wire coming from the switch.
You could simply have a bad connection at the solenoid, or switch, or the the plug in the harness near the fan housing. Or a bad component.
