I asked this same thing about 1 1/2 yrs ago and no one could tell me anything. Now that some of you guys are here that helped in designing and tuning the 295/s you might know.
I found a 295 eng on ebay and bought it. It came with a bunch of NOS parts (more on that later) I found that the model tag was not like the tags on my other 295/s engines. Instead of the standard model Reading KEC 295rs/2 this one only says "KEC 295rs" the lettering was stamped in instead of etched in the black background. The SN is 43X0025 The other tag on the eng say "Made for CCW by Kioritz corp." The eng has the correct CDI and carbs for a 295/s could this be a proto eng?(sorry about the pic, can't get my camera to take a good pic of the tags)

Hey ETD guys- 295/s
Next part of this story. The parts that came with this eng are also interesting. I got the standard 295 pipe but also got a set of stinger pipes with it. Did anybody ever try dual pipes on the 295/s? What got me thinking was the pics at the HOF the dual pipes in the 500? Mine look vey similiar but no place for the temp probes. The guy I bought all this from swears he used these pipes and it was loud. (Wish I had his # yet I think his name was JIM org from IA but he moved to CA and took the stuff along) Anybody have thoughts on this?

Hey ETD guys- 295/s
Dang, sorry can't help you on your topic JDXspec ... but I certainly learned something from your photo. I didn't realize the engines were made in Japan for CCW by Korwitz! I know it may not be right, but it makes me relate it to a Chevy pickup being built in Mexico by a Ford plant ?!?!?!?! Could someone strainghten me out on this one? Thanks

Hey ETD guys- 295/s
Deere John,
The early CCW(Canadain Curtis Wright) engines that JD installed in their snowmobiles were contracted to Kioritz engine manufacture in Japan. They came from Japan with the CCW logo on the engines. Those early engines were also installed in other brands of sleds in the late 60's and early seventies.
Around 1974 John Deere started buying the engines directly from Kioritz.
