Power Jet Frustration

Post by Spitfire79 »

Sounds like the CDI or external coil. Mine is doing the same thing. After 10-15 minutes, once it warms up, It runs terrible. Wont rev up past 4000. I changed the external coil and made a difference, get another 5 minuts out of it. I've got a CDI ordered and hopefully that should solve the problem

I think mine is fuel it ran fine for awhile and then it died and there was alot of air in the system and one of the carbs wasnt getting gas at all. I think that its a waring that the sled is going to run out of gas because shortly there after it did. BOB

Mr Deere, What is the out side temp? if it is above +25 it could just be that it is to warm for your jetting (main Jets) IF your sled is jetted for colder weather ( 0 Deg. or below). This is especially true if your riding a newer Liquifire, the single carbed sleds are not quit as fussy.

Guys there should NOT be a gasket between the rubber carb mount & the cyl. I looked to see if Deere had a torque spec for these but it doesn't mention them in my service manual (Cyclone/Liquifire) Beware you CAN over tighten the 2 mounting bolts & it WILL pull the mount away from the cylinder creating an unwanted air leak. Also the ones that Kawasaki uses on the invaders are longer than the Deeres thus will effect low end torque, if I remember right they are also made of a softer rubber & might make the carbs vibrate more, as said earlier I would find the correct Deere/Mikuni ones.

RICH
Maybe you can add to what if anything Deere recommended to use on the surface of these where they meet the cyl. for a better seal.

The boots I used were for an Invader. They are shorter than the ons that I took off. Yes, they seem very soft. If you over tighten they create a gap and leak. I didnt put a gasket on and now seem to work fine.

My Boots are two piece they have a gasket in the middle. Is this rare or something because no one has ever heard of them. Also it was close to if not above 25 degrees out. I think it could be dirty carbs i cleaned my fuel pump and it doesn't do it nearly as often as it used to. Also will a hole in my pickup line also create this type of a problem when the gas gets below the hole. BOB

Yes, a hole would cause loss of suction allowing air into the lines.

Hrs a question, I've replaced both the external coil and CDI on my Liquifire. It starts good, idles well, runs decent for 10 minutes or so. Once it warms up it loses power. Can't pull a sick kid out of a high chair. Thats why I replaced the CDI, figuring it was the problem. Could it be the internal coil / stator? Help!!! This is making me nuts.
Once it cools down, all is well for 10 - 15 minutes.

Where can I find an internal coil / stator??

Mr. Deere. thanks, but I've got gas and the lines are new. If I lift the track off the ground and play with the throttle, I can sometimes get it work rev up better, but only slightly. Let it cool down for a while and all is well. This happens if I just let it idle and warm up. Dont have to drive it. Almost sounds like it cuts to one cylinder, but both are firing

Spitfire79, Could you have a problem with your rev limiter?

Wow Bob I have never seen anything like that?? are you sure someone hasn't added an Insulator block between the carb mount & the cylinder. These used to be used a lot on older sleds with Tillotson, Walbro & Keihin carbs & were made of Bakelite (sp) to insulate the carbs from heat, but after mikuni's became popular I've never seen them again, this is sure a new one on me??

Jeff: I didn't know you had it unplugged, we always unplugged them. Personally I think it is just to warm out, The 80 Liquifire I used to run didn't run worth crap @ + 20 deg. I had it jetted for -0 deg & below, once the weather warmed up it wouldn't even pull itself across a road once you stopped.

Jeff, Also if you can find or get one of those new infrared thermometers for automotive Diagnostics (Raytek or other mfg.) I have found out that these really work great for Synchronizing duel or triple carbs at idle. Just point at the exhaust manifold next to the cylinder, first one side then the other & keep turning in or out the carb Idle screw until both cylinders read the same temp at your desired idle RPM this will also let you know if both cylinders are firing like they should be.
After I found this out I don't know how I ever managed without one, LOL

Also I'm not so sure that 150 mains might not be too fat even if it was -25 outside I know that is what deere calls for in the fine tune manual but usually that is just a starting point. I wish I had it written down what we used to run but I don't.
your 30 pilot might be a little lean for starting FT manual calls for 40 which could be why your getting a backfire once & a while.
Also what is your idle set at? if you bring the Idle up to 2500 - 3000+ this will clean the idle up also if you are to rich at idle & your clutch engagement should be about 4000 +
Your profile doesn't say where you are at so I'm assuming you are @ Sea Level to 4000 ft. if you want give me a call 612-325-8527 cell @ CDT
