jd 500 running hot

Post by jdriderinny »

Hi im new to this site but it is by far the best site i have come across for the old jd sleds. We have rebuilt the top end of the 72 500 twice and still it running way to hot, burns the end of the plug and then plug blows up in the head, pistons are not cheap and cant afford many more. If anyone has any ideas why it would be of great help , cant wait to get it out on the trails this year and see what it does.

When you rebuilt your engine you should have changed the seals as well. I've blown up 3 now due to bad or reused seals. Then you should pressure test your engine, in the FAQ section, to make sure you fixed the problem. That would probably be the reason that your engine is hot.
