Just got done redoing one of my 72' 400 motor's inside and out
. I have been ridding this one for the last 4 years and when I lift the hood I notice alot of unburned oil on the underside of the hood, all over the backside of the motor, ect. While it was running I found the leak at the small connector tube w/four springs
. During the rebuild I have cleaned it, wire brushed it, sanded it, everything and there is still light comming threw the joint. Is there a sealer that I can use? I heard that High Temp RTV Silicone might work but, Will it handle that high of Temp? Or is there any other solution.?

Jeff - I like to use Permatex Ultra-Copper on all of the exhaust joints. As long as everthing is in good condition, this will seal up the small leakers.

I have a question regarding gasket sealers. I have some that state not for use with intake or head gaskets. what makes the difference of gasket sealers, is it that some do high temp, so do not disolve in gas. Thanks for some info.

tipitup,
Some sealers can not tolerate gas and oil and others are made to handle high temp.

I had the same problem with my exhaust i custom made an exhaust and cut out all the joints on the factory exhaust, and it solved my problem. I used a sealer something like what was mentioned after i put it all together just to make sure it was sealed tight.
