76 Cylcone Engine swap
Does anyone know of an engine that I could swap out without a pile of rework in my 76 cyclone, originally it had the 340, the original sat with some gooey gas in it and totally seized up!

spitty,
The base plate will except the KEC 340,440/22 series engines with the cdi ignition. You could also drop in the early /22 engines with the points type ignition. The crankcase is the same for the 340/440 engines.

More than likely you could also swap in a 400 from an x6 if you get your hands on 1.

how about a 440 from a cyclone. then put the liquifire induction/clutching on it....

I picked up a ccw400 that I bolted down last night, I actually got it to fire but the project today is to soak the carb and clean out the gas tank tank, do you guys know if I will have a problem using the carb off the original engine, it is a mikuni and what came with the 400 was a walboro, I would like to use the original if possible, the one that came with the engine loooks pretty used up, will I need to rejet or anything. Thanks Spitty

spitty,
The mikuni will work but will require tuning/ changing jets. The mikuni was never used on a 400 engine so there is no base line jeting specs to go by. You may be able to salvage the walbro and have quicker results.
Tuning the mikuni will take patience and trial & error.

The kec400 that I picked up upon closer investigation turned out to be a little rough, looked like it had sat it a bit of water and the water got through the mag side seal and into the crankcase on #1 cylinder and turned into a choclate milk like substance, should have pulled the crank drain, might of helped but coils on the stator plate were pretty rusted, unfortunately this leaves me no further ahead, other then I know the guy I got the engine from and can give it back, the hunt resumes!! spitty,
How bad is your original 340. Did you split the cases and inspect the crankshaft?

yes I split the case and all bearings and seals and connecting rods need to be replaced, classic story of a mouse nest in the air box, float portion of the gas capo that had rusted off and sat in the bottom of the tank and went through the fuel system, took apart the fuel pump and found a sandy like substance in it, but I did clean out the tank and dip the carb before i tried the 400 and i did purchase a pump kit beacause one of the small diaphragms were a little chewy, but I also need new piston's at twenty and one of the huys here had said he has some 40overs that i could use but have to waste more meat on my jugs but need to have crank this rebuilt at about $500(I have priced a sled shop to have done) but I don't want to throw a whole pile at the engine because the rest needs a bit of work as well. But I will keep looking.

Guys,
DK-Trader has NOS cranks for the KEC 440/22 and 340/22's on Evil-Bay. The starting bid is about $50.00. They also have had 340 Cyclone pistons cheap too. You might be able to rebuild your motor alot cheap than messing with adapting a piston ported one of another size. Keep in mind that I tend to be the "keep it original" type...
Good luck with your sled,

I may know where there is a 440 cyclone setting in pieces. The guy had the motor redone, and there it sets in his garage. The chassis is beat, and I think it had a liquafire? liquidfire hood. I dont know as mucjh as most of you about deere, so maybe the motor was an implant. I will try and get a hold of him if some one wants. I coulda had the sled last summer for cheap. If its still there, Ithink hell still dump it! Doug
