Im working on relacing the crank in a 1991 seadoo pwc. I just wiondered if any one had any helpful suggestions to get this off. I see it is screwed on, I just dont want to screw it up, Thanks Doug. Does any one know how critical it is to align the engine with the recommended tool? Thanks Doug

are you talking about the coupling for the drive shaft....

yes, it has the coupling. It looks almost like a fly wheel with the coupling built in.

ok the way i took mine off was i removed the head and shoved a rag in the cylinder then put the head back on and put like a prybar in the slots and give her a turn. cant rember if left hand threas or not....mine was a 580cc. when i was doing mine, i just marked the shims and installed them in the same spot when i replaced the engine....

I got it. I had the cylinders off already as it came in a box, so I had to clamp the bad rod and it spun off. I heated it, hopefully it didnt mess it up. I had to build a spanner type wrench as mine had the two holes for a spanner wrench instead of the slots. Did you use the recommended tool to set the motor, or did you just eyeball it. I see it looks like misalignment will take the pump out? I dont want to buy the tool its expensive as he##. Doug

i dont think you hurt it any, they might of had some locktite on it. yea that alignment tool is expensive. i just marked the shims but whoever took the engine out im sure they didnt do that. what about using one of those cheap pen light type lazers and taping it something to get a strait shot...???

I will probably just set it in and run it to the dealer. I would just rather protect my 375.00 investment, lol. I dont imagine they will charge a whole lot. I will see, it seems to me that it can be done by feel and common sense, but ill put it bnack in and see that too. He may have marked the shims, the kid did a nice job of pulling it apart, I was really impressed that he organized it as well as he did. well gotta run, thanks again Doug
