Just bought 79 yama exciter

Post by WatertownBob »

I just picked up a verry clean 79 yamaha exciter with no spark. The local yam shop said that the parts needed are no longer available. PN 8E7-85512-10-00 Coil source and pn 8E7-85541-10-00 Coil charge. Any one have any leads on these parts.

This sled is really clean, nice seat and paint, under the hood all the foam is perfect. track and slides are a 80% Skies and wear bars good. I am pleased with the buy.

Does any one have any experiance with the carb on these old yamahas. It is not the slide mikuni type.

Thanks for any help

Talked some more with the guy at the Yamaha shop. Found out that the internal coil is bad. I found one on DK online. Does anyone have experiance with these vintage Yamaha sleds? Things that I should be looking for.

 Butterfly type carb any experiance?

Thanks Bob

What year is the SRX. I had a chance to buy one about 6 years ago with a trailer for $400 wish I would have.

that is a 81 (first year for the v-max style). this one has a 540 v-max engine, fazer chutches, v-max 4 aluminum skis and 82 SRX 500 graphics. the 82 was never released due to too many problems....

The exciter has the rear suspension is locked up in the down pos. I think that it needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Any pointers on this job?

Thanks Bob
