Got it all cleaned up.

I was thinking of chaning the coolant and chaincase oil. Any other suggestions? I went through and greased it all up. I did notice a coolant hose that will have to be replaced. Other than 1 dent in the belly pan it looks pretty good.

-now all i need to find is the 1 up seat...I will have to wait till the swap meets start up! What year 1 up seats will fit this sled?

I did notice a squeal when it was running...but I gave it some gas and it went away. Have to see if thats a problem when we get some snow. I plan on going through the clutches when I get some extra time!

Also what is the idle supposed to be on these machines.... I think it was idling around 2000. (maybe a little higher)

HAHAHA nice Danzig Also Cobra Might I suggest something the engine compartment looks nice and shiny and clean, EXCEPT for that rusted hunk of S***. Might I suggest repainting the Exhaust and then you will have a sled that looks good on the inside and out. I looked at one and thats the first thing i noticed was the rusted exhaust. I don't mean to bash the sled its in excellent condition Just my opinion to what will make it look like new. Also why the 1 up seat?? BOB

Just name a time and place Paul..ha

Grass Drags!!

I am thinking maybe next weeked (4/28) may work for picking up the parts sleds. I will give you call....what day would work best for you?

Mr. Deere,

Yeah painting the exhaust is on the list of things to do. I just think the 1 up seat looks better and would give the seld a better look

Right now the list includes

-finishing the engine rebuild on my TF (waiting on parts)
-rebuilding suspension and clutch on my 80 LF and painting exhaust
-finding and fixing the coolant leak on my other LF

Then summerizing all the machines!! So they are ready to go! I hate working on sleds when it is snowing

Thanks Guys!!

427Cobra,

Sled look's pretty good!

Regarding seat:
Just about any Polaris one-piece seat/fuel tank combo used on Indy, Evolved (like yours), Aggressive, or Gen II chassis from 1994-2000 will work; even seats with wrap-around taillights. The 2 piece XC-XCR seat/tank set-up will also fit but would need additional mounting brackets; Indy Lite and Edge chassis stuff is totally different.

Do yourself a favor:
Pull the rear suspension and do an IRAN (Inspect and Repair As Needed) because you never what it's been through over the years. It may sound like a lot of work, but it's only 4 bolts to remove and well worth it in the long run. This winter I pulled 4 Polaris suspensions that all looked in nice shape, yet each one had unnoticed problems (ie; bad bearings, seized x-shafts, cracked swing arms, egged mounting holes, worn out shocks, etc.). Also, it's not uncommon to see slide rails cracked by the front pivot mounts on xtra-12's.

Storage tip:
Spray everything made of metal (engine, exhaust, suspension) with a good coat of WD-40 when you put it away for the summer. Any left over residue (there won't be much) can be easily wiped off with a dry rag when prepping for riding next fall.

Rich,
To bad your XLT is not a 2000 model (called a Triumph). I would've been very interested....

About the Wd-40 BE CAREFUL it will dry and crack rubber parts. I use Silicon Spray with the same results. Just a thought. BOB

Consider Ceramic Coating the exhaust. It won't rust or lose color like the stock exhaust did and will do again. Will cost around $100 (sandblasted & coated) and you'll never have to deal with it again. You can also choose several colors.

Thanks for all the tips.

I am looking forward to getting this sled ready for next winter.

Now I will have to start figuring out where to get parts for this sled if I need anything. I think there is a Polaris dealership that is fairly close and I am sure DK has plenty of parts.

Is there a specific technical manuals you reccomend for these sleds? I am assuming you can get them from the dealer.

If I put a differnt seat on it will the electronic fuel gauge work? Not sure how that system works.

I assume the current seat has the sender installed with 2 wire leads that go to the gauge. You can remove the sender and put it in your new seat (might make the old seat harder to sell). Or, you could buy the sender seperately, they're on eBay all the time. Just make sure you get the correct type; there are a couple of different styles. If you're lucky, you might find a one-up seat with a sender already installed...they are out there.

As far as manuals; get a genuine "Polaris" Service Manual and "Polaris" Parts Manual. Don't waste your money on the the generic ones.

the problem with your squeaking belt is that the belt is to tight (common problem when a new belt is installed). this is a simple fix. lift the belt guard and look at the belt ride height (the amount of belt above the clutch) this should be about 3/32 of an inch (can be 1/6th to 1/8th of an inch) to adjust this loosen the 3 10mm bolts in the center of the rear clutch (moving it toward the deeper end of the ramps tightens the clutch thus raising the belt ride height (in your case this would be the wrong way) so turn it toward the shallow end of the ramps and it will lower the belt ride height thus loosening the belt and taking away the squeak) remember a little goes a long way so move it a little and re-tighten the bolts lift the track, spin the track, then check it. may take a couple of tries. as the belt wears you can continue to do this process for maximum belt performance when there is no adjustment left it is time for a new belt. i see this problem all the time guy come to my shop and ask me to look at his sled. when i ask him what he thinks is wrong he tells me that he put on a new belt and it wasn't the only problem because now it creeps or that there is a bad squeal in the clutches, so it must need a new clutch. when i show him how to adjust the rear clutch and he realizes that he didn't have to spend 400.00 bucks on a new clutch he leaves with a big smile on his face.

That sounds like exactly what I need to do. That should solve my problem.

Thanks!
