I still remember clearly back in the sixties with Mom in the kitchen baking bread and and telling us to come to the window and look and see what Dad brought home. We were 6 kids with our noses to the window wondering what that red thing was in the back of his pick-up truck.
Dad walked in and asked if anybody wanted to go snowmobiling. I was only 6 and didnt even know what that was but i just did what everybody else did. Get the snow gear on and we all piled in the truck. Still cant figure out how we got six kids and Mom and Dad in that single cab pickup.

We spent all day riding on the Phalen Lake golf course and Lake taking turns with Dad. Wasnt long and everybody started to lose interest but me and my Dad.

Many nights my Dad would come home for dinner than we would get our gear on and ride the railroad tracks to the lake and spend the rest of the evening riding in the dark. Me ,my Dad and that 68 Rupp snow sport .

Yes, those Rupps were really nice sleds. Fast, lightweight and pretty decent handling. Heres a pic of my 77 Nitro. I restored it a couple years ago and it goes quite respectably for an old sled.

WOW talk about Complicated i wouldnt want to rebuild that engine set up. Nice job was that wood grain a Factory Item. BOB

Yep, the dash is original. It was indeed a compex sled to restore and I don't think I'd wanna do another one anytime soon.....but it was well worth the work. I probably shouldn't even be riding it, but I just can't resist taking it to a couple vintage rallys each winter. It kinda goes too fast for it's own good....so I try to be careful with it. I'm working on a 74 Alouette Super Brute right now and hope to have it done by next winter. Being a fan cooled, it's a fair bit more straightforward to rebuild than the Rupp......but the handlebar mounted windshield and gauge cluster do complicate things a bit. Glad you liked the Nitro.

Thanks for your kind words, Rich....All of a sudden, I feel proud of the countless hours I spend on restoring old sleds....while most of my buddies just think I'm some sort of eccentric nutcase. Regrettably, I sold the Skiroule (in the background of pic) last winter. I restored that one about five years ago, but I really didn't ride it much because it had such a high center of gravity that I was scared I'd roll it and destroy the flimsy plastic hood. My theory was that if I wasn't going to ride and enjoy it, it's no sense having it sitting in the showroom collecting dust.....but now that it's gone, I almost get teary eyed looking at pics of it. Lesson learned, don't sell anything that you've put lots of time into.

Pete,

I've got a 77 440 Nitro sitting in the rack that I've been slowly gathering parts for. It makes me want to pull it down and get started after seeing yours. The only problem is that I don't think mine will ever achieve the level of detail yours has.
