Lost spark on one side on my kohler 295 twin.Have new points, condensers. Was thinking of replaceing the internal ign. coil. The stator has two piggy back coils & a single larger coil. The parts guy told me not to bother with the coil because Both cyl.s fire off the same internal ign. coil.If one side fires the coils good. Can anyone confirm this.

Most likely its not the internal coil. Quick check would be just use a test light to test the wire coming into the the external coil. If it lights up youve got power from the internal. If thats ok just swap the 2 external coils and see if you get spark on the bad side. If yes look for corrosion where the plug wire end screws on and also where the plug wire screws into the coil. These kohlers have bosch ext coils like a ski doo and Ive also seen them get corroded where the power and ground wires plug into the coil.
If none of these things pan out next look into the points and condensors you could have popped a cond or maybe the wire came off you soldered on also it only takes 1 little speck of dirt, rust etc to get stuck between the point contacts for them to not work. Good luck and keep us posted.
