I have a 440 liquifire that has intermitent spark,when it starts it idles and performs well,but if you shut it off it might start,if it does-no problems.It will spark for 6 or 7 times on both cylinders then 1 or 2 times on 1 then no spark at all.I performed the test procedures from "Diagnosing CDI problems on the Kioritz engines"post.My results are:

Low speed coil-1.56ohms
High speed coil-71.4
PTO trigger coil-29.6
Mag trigger coil-30.3
Lighting coil-.6

My tach always reads when pulling rope but spark intermitent,readings taken at approx. 60 degrees.

Z50MARK,
Your test results are in the ballpark indicating that the cdi box is going bad. I am going to look thru my notes to find the actual ohm allowance. The tachometer gets it's signal from the lighting circuit so it is normal to see the tach move when trying to start the engine.

I have had this sled for 3 years and only ran part of the first year then sat in garage.Talked to old owner and he said he installed new Hewtech CDI box when I bought it,so it only has a few hours on it.

This was Scott's reply:
That's easy...the low speed coil needs to be at least 2.5K-ohms
(2500-ohms~2700-ohms). It's failing and that's the problem. You pull it
enough, the charge will eventually build, then spark. The problem is, the
energy isn't there to continually charge the cDI capacitors for normal
spark.

We have original PRESTOLITE stators available....limited number of them.
Visit www.CDIBOX.com for details. Have him tell me that he's calling from
the JD page & I'll give him a better deal than posted $135.

10% is probably max that is allowable, but the low-speed winding value is
critical for energy.
