I'm organizing our clubs second annual vintage derby to be held on Feb 2. Last year, I threw in a 15 question vintage snowmobile trivia contest into the mix of other activities and the rider with the most correct answers got to take home a trophy. It went over quite well, but I'm low on ideas for trivia questions this year. Hoping that some of you might feel like emailing me some of your trivia ideas to ziggy_snowdust2000@yahoo.ca I'm looking for short one or two sentence questions that can be answered in less than 4 or 5 words. I'd like some John Deere oriented trivia, but certainly need to cover other makes as well. Anything snowmobile related from the late fifties to the early eighties would be suitable. Some race related stuff would be nice, however I don't want to dwell only on racing sleds. Looking forward to some interesting emails. Thanx!

The reason I didn't want to post them in here is that I do expect some of the site members to attend the derby and I didn't want them to have an unfair advantage...however, after thinking it over, I realize nobody can answer a question correctly until they learn the right answer....so what better way to learn snowmobile trivia than by logging into jdsleds?
You stumped me with the JDX4 question...and also with the Merc quiz (even though I restored several of them years ago). I thought the tunnels were just aluminum, but now I'm thinking it must have been something a little more exotic?
Ski Dog was the original name chosen by Joseph Armand for his compact snowmobile. The story I recall is that the words Ski Dog didn't fit very well in the V pattern of the hood, so the painter used an O instead of a G at the end and it was then decided that Ski Doo sounded better anyway.

IFS? maybe Skiroule around 74? or perhaps Kalamazoo? But hey, what could be more independent than two leaf springs with to connection between them? If you look at it that way, every sled has IFS...lol

Silver Bullet? That would be the 1973 TnT's available in 294, 340, & 440 cc versions. By the way, TnT stood for Track n' Trail (that was one of our last years trivia questions)
Bombardier's first CDI? not sure, probably the Polar Fires used in the F/A tnt's around 1974?
MXZ engine? That would be the type 464 liquid? Wasn't a single carb version of that used in the 81 Everest Electro and the Elite? Not sure what year the Blizzard 9700 arrived on the scene, but I think it had the same mill with dual carbs

I'm not very knowledgable about Chapparals, so just a couple stabs in the dark here. Was it liquid cooling and the first use of Xenoah engines?
Chrysler built the Sno Runner in the late 70's/early 80's. Suzuki built both sleds and cars. Honda built a sled called the White Fox in the early seventies, though very few, if any were sold to the public.A company called Kaiser sold some sleds in 1970, but I'm not sure if it was in any way affiliated with the Kaiser automobile company. Bombardier sells a little electric car for gated communities...does that make Bombardier a car company? Sears sold relabelled sleds built by scorpion, polaris, robin-nodwell, fox trac and ski daddler thru the late sixties and did sell cars in the early nineteen hundreds. Yamaha builds sleds and also built engines for some of the Ford Taurus models...and I wouldn't be surprised if Yamaha did sell some cars in Japan, though I'm not sure. I probably missed a bunch of others. So which answer were you looking for?
I'm pretty sure the old Rotax 300 had the ignition coil mounted under the flywheel and used a centrifugal fan mounted on the flywheel (no fan belt)
Para Rail suspension was offered by Scorpion and later Masseys. It was sort of a combination of bogies and a slide suspension with the bogies mounted on the slide rails. The rails had no hifax. A good system for marginal snow conditions, but the handling was a bit squirrly.

You can also relate the "car company" question to suzuki, as they make cars now, still make sled engines for Cat, and used to make snowmobiles.....modern day sled club riders, especially cat guys, may come up with that one. I know they didn't make cars back then, but the question didn't have a time frame.
