snowmobile trivia
I just remembered about 6 or 7 years ago reading about a race that was held that made the Winnipeg-St Paul seem pretty short. Darned if I can remember the name of it, but I think it ran from somewhere in Quebec and on into the territories (or maybe even beyond the arctic circle). I think it was run with 2 or 3 man teams (each on their own sled). Seems to me it was somewhere around 2200 miles. I've been looking through some of my old mags, but haven't come across the article yet. Not sure if it was held only one year or if maybe, it's still being staged. Anyone know anything about it?
qwerty had a question a few pages back about whether the Moto Ski Bullet was a direct drive. I did some research today and found out it had a chaincase. And it didn't have the fuel injection that I thought it did either. It was a pretty standard issue sled, but looked quite futuristic for a 1971 machine.

There was a sled built in the seventies that had a slide rail suspension that did not have any sliders (aka Hyfax) attached to the metal rails. Instead, the slider material was incorporated into the inner surface of the track. The sled used a track which was identical in every dimension to the ones used on the 100 series Deeres, but if you put a JD track on the sled, it would overheat the track in a very short distance due to the absence of the hyfax lining material in the JD track. Here's a pic of the skidframe from this sled. What year(s), make and model was the sled?

Not sure where Rodimus is getting the Deere logo info. Any Deere logo I have ever seen has been leaping. The one before the two legged leaping was a four legged leaping. There's one thing that is differnt with the logo used on the snowmobile. They reversed the logo on the right side of the sled to make it leap forward. This is the only place the reversed logo was ever used. Jesse

74+/- Aloutte Super Brut, It had graphite encorporated into the track and I believe it rode on the steel skid frame. Came in fan, LC, and there is supposed to be a few free airs around as well. Very sharp machine as the seat flowed up over fuel tank to the handle bars. What other feature was of note on this model?

I think the real question should be how long did it take to figure out there was dirt/crude in your fuel tank.

Paul: 42 times. 42 is the answer to all questions in the universe.
Alloutte Super Brute also had the first pod mounted headlight popularized 10 years later by the Yamaha Phazer and poorly copied by Cat after that. Even Yamaha could't repeat the Phazers success with the Exiter.

42 times? Really, Joe? Surely, that must be stretching things a tad....lol. In any case, it sounds like Paul had that Walbro apart one time too many. Right on bout the Super Brute handlebar/headlight pod being copied by Yamaha.

Yep, the one millionth Doo Doo was a 1974 TNT Everest 440. Most of the 74 Ski Doos had a circular decal on the underside of the hood proclaiming the accomplishment. The two millionth was a 1994 Summit.
As for the last leaf spring snowmobile, my guess would be the 2000 Kitty Cat (not sure if something that small counts)

Sorry RP, but all Deere decals show a leaping deer. The early ones were jumping over a log, later logos tried to show a Whitetailed deer.
Here is from Deere's website about their jumping Deere:
