I have tried several times to open the serial number listing on this web site but my computer refuses to do it. This leaves me to use the listing of serial numbers in the April 1996 Green Magazine as my reference. I understand how the type code works (A=1972, B=1973, 34 or 44 refers to engine size, etc.), but how does the six digit number work? Does each sled have its own serial number or can a 1973 400 and JDX8 have the same number? For example, does anybody have a 4000B #11008, a 5000B #11008 and a JDX8B #11008? My JDX8 has the following serial number: JDX8 007109M. There is no B following the 8 to signify 1973 and the 7109 would indicate the 1972 model year - was there a different system for the X series? Did the tunnel receive a six digit number at production time in 1972 but sit in storage until it became an X8 in 1973. What are the serial numbers of other X8s? Thanks for any info.

Questions about the serial number system
Deere started to make JDX8s in 73. The first yr they must not have put the "B" in. My '73 JDX8 says JDX8 ser 010430. I know '74s did have the "C" in the model. I do not know why they did not in '73
