'74 X6 fuel problem
i bought this sled from a friend for $50. sleds in great shape except for the carb. it has all new fuel, new plugs, and new diaphragms. i spray a little starting fluid in and it'll start on thefirst pull, run for a little and then shut off. choking it doesnt change anything. once it stays running it will run like a bandit for about 5 minutes then shut off. and then it will start and run for a second or two then shut off. idle mixture needle is out 1 turn, and high rpm mixture needle is out 7/8 turn. plugs are a little wet but not as much as i would have thought if it was running real rich. any suggestions are welcome. the it also has good compression. its a 400 CCW with a walbro carb. thanks.

'74 X6 fuel problem
Sounds like the problems I first had with my sled. I found the pulse line to be loose and not very well fitted on the engine and carb. The next problem I ran into was the fuel pick up hose in the tank was not long enough, someone rigged it at the time and it was sucking air and gas at the same time. Check for bubbles in your fuel line running to your carb, this is how I found that I had a problem also. When I originally got my sled running I hand sprayed gas into the mouth of the carb to keep it running until it got good and warmed up. A cheap water bottle worked for this. I don't have any major starting problems now. I didnt rebuild the carb yet but it will be getting this done soon. I also found that Champion plugs are junk. Get the NGK's, I run the BR9ES series and my sled is a new machine just by changing the plugs.
