Spitfire Clutch Problems
Spitfire Clutch Problems
I have a 79' JD Spitfire. The problem is that theclutch seems to not open far enough for the belt to ride all the way down the valley. I have to cheat both clutches to get it to start, and once I get it to move if I keep on the gas it runs great till I come to a stop. I am sure that the clutch needs rebuilt but I do not know if it is an original clutch or an aftermarket Comet. What did these sleds ship with and how do I get it off of the sled without destoring it? Are there replacement parts for the origial clutch and where do you get them?

they came with a 94C Comet Duster primary clutch & a JD driven clutch (but being direct drive they have a larger driven , so the only driven clutches that will work are the ones from a Spitfire, Snowfire & Sprintfire)
The 94C Comet Duster clutches use a white spring & 9 plastic pucks inside to make them work, if these pucks have gotten rally hot they will melt, crack or break, so you probably will need to ck those pucks & then possably rebuild the clutch or replace it.

So a Comet Duster p4C puller will workto pull that clutch? I ordered on of those and a 1 1/4 belt kit in hopes of rebuilding the clutch. If I have to I think I can get replacement parts from my local yamaha dealer but the kit ordered was from MfgSupply Co. the only thing is that they are not real descriptive with their part lists so I am not sure if I got the right parts... I will just have to wait and see when it gets here. I do like the sled, I kinda grew up on it. btw thatks for the quick response.

Hey Guys,
I have some NOS parts for the Spitfire cluthes, including complete driven units, and the fixed half and pucks for the 94-C drive clutch. No spings for the drive unit or movable faces, sorry.
Prices will be very, very fair.
