1997 Ski-doo Formula III

Post by jhecht »

I have a sled in my shop right now that was running fine but put it on the stand to run it a little bit outside (it was about 25 degrees out and there was a dusting of white stuff on the ground) Like I said it was running fine then it started to run like it wasnt running on all 3 cylinders... I pulled the plugs and found the plug closet to the pull start (furthest from the PTO Clutch side) to show the cylinder was running very hot, and lean. I ran a compression test on the cylinders and and got about 125lbs. across the cylinders, except the one that was running hot was about 120. I put a little oil in the cylinder and ran the test again and the pressure increased to about 130-135 in all cylinders. Which is why I am thinking its the piston rings but I just want to make sure before I tear the engine apart and have to buy all the gasket kits and rings. Is there another way to find out or maybe another Idea. I just cleaned all the carbs and put brand new plugs in. Any thoughts??

can't really help you out here but you should try the guys at www.dootalk.com They have all the knowledge for ski doo stuff. Go to the mach Z forums and at the top of the page is a sub forum for ski doo triples. Lots of smart guys there. That is where I get all my questions answered about my 1998 Formula III 700. Good luck with the sled.
