For those of you that have not seen Joe Rainville, I can tell you that it would take about two of him to wear this coat, it's huge! LOL On a more serious note, I was very in tune with the JD clothing from that era and feel very comfortable saying that it is not a "special" coat i.e. 340/S coat. As a Chevrolet dealer we had a company that supplied us with real cool apparel, the company was "Horizon". This would be pretty typical of their work even though it's marked JD Bodyguard. An example of Horizon's work is the green jacket that I have with my driver's patches. It's a one off from Horizon made especially for me with the idea of selling the concept to John Deere. I'll attach a picture of my jacket being modeled by the Watersboy. Maybe Jon could shed some light on the Ebay jacket. Don

PS: I just read Wildfire's post and that make sense. It could easily have been something made special for them. That of course would make the price super high.

Ed,

That is awsome info. I only have the small 76-77 brochures, and they don't show much for clothing. So the only 76-77 clothing I have seen is the ones the test riders are wearing for the LF and Cyclones.

If its a special one off coat, the price is deffinately not going to be cheap. Thanks for posting the pic's Ed, would love to see the video of the comerical.

Ed,

Your not helping, LOL! I think I really need this coat. Don't you know, I was outbid about 5 minutes after I bid the last time. I need to keep my cool since it's got over 5 days left on the auction.

Thanks again for providing some of background on this coat!

Talk about combining my two hobbies: JD sleds and trains. I love the shot of Big John stopping the train (Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR-former Rio Grande Southern narrow gauge). Thanks, Joel

Hey Guys,

Trust me Lindner, my metal health is safe from you, LOL!

Really guys, I am not that puny. Even after dropping 15 lbs I am just under 190 dressed, and in case you missed the pic with Don, "I be a might bit taller" than he is at 5'10". Of course that is over half a foot shorter than Wanie or JRC...

SSGT, I just bid on it at first because it looked a lot like the ETD leathers that are in the 75 race video. Jon Carlson's were up for auction at the HOF last year, which he graciouly won and then donated back to the HOF. My girlfriend was holding my hands under the table after I bid $700 for them.

I hold that I didn't start anything. The guy that put them on Evil Bay did! Darn cool coat. I might have to call in a few favors with some of my buddies. Anyone need any muffers for 74 and up mid-mounts or a Liquifire radiator?!

Later Liquidator... and, Ed, thank you again for posting all the cool back ground info on that coat. You are a good/bad influence on the rest of us!

-Rainville
