72 400 bearings

Post by Bulldog »

Hi Guys~

The bearing on the jackshaft of my 400 went out. I pulled it apart today to replace. It's the bearing between the secondary and the brake assembly that went out but I'm going to replace both bearings on the shaft. My question is- What locks the bearings to the shaft? They are held in place by a two piece flange, but it looks like both have been spinning somewhat on the shaft. I've seen other bearings that use an eliptical colar that you drive around with a punch, and these look simmilar but there doesn't seem to be a collar on these. I guess I couldn't tell on the one as it was completely torn up, but the other one just had a bushing on the shaft between the bearing and the flange, and no locking colar. Any Ideas? Thanks,
Greg

No eccentric collars are used, although they are that type of bearing.
My manual is over at the shop, but I believe they are locktighted to the shaft.

Thanks,
I've never heard of locktighting a bearing on, but I guess it makes sense. I appreciate the help.

The bearings on the track driveshaft are exactly the same deal as well.

The jackshaft bearings may also be squeezed together by the bushings, brake drum, sheave and sprocket.
