remember the specs i gave you were for ported cylinders with cut heads and pipes with the motor turning 9000 rpms. you will have to play with it to get it where you need to be. everything i gave you will keep you from burning down the motor. you will have to do some testing and tuning to get it where you need it. if you keep having problems go to a set of 36mm carbs with out the power jets and you can take everything form the stock carbs except the main jets. add the main and power jet together and start with that.

the needles im using are 6cey6 and needle jets are q-2 they were in the 38mm carbs when i got them they are alot thinner than the recomended needles and i think that is why they are working better with the 260 mains. im gonna get some more jets and try again with the setup i was given in the faq section. i only had 350 mains to try at the time it was a sunday and all the local shops were closed. im running the sled with no airbox at the moment i had the carbs on and off this thing alot it much eisier with no airbox. i wanna get it close and then rejet with the airbox on.

yahooooooo! y did i ever doubt the info i recieved here. well tonight me and my 38's sat down and had a long talk they told me that the needle jets i put in were slightly different than the ones i needed in the carbs both were a q-2 but the ones that i needed for my 38's was a little longer. luckily i had a set of q-2 from a set of 38's i just got for my other lf i put them in set the carbs up with the recomended parts i used a 310 main to start out with cause it is kinda warm 38 deg. but i thought it would be a good place to start. i runs good real good i will take it out for a test run tomarrow if i have time and do some further test with main jets. thanks for all the help so far. now i must go try to find connecting rod bearings for my 77 lf. thanks again and i will keep you posted.

well i thought i had it guess not the sled was still hard to start after all i had to pull my brains out to get it to run after starting it it ran good. it also seemed to get flooded out real easy. i got all the missing parts for my stock carbs. put them on and it seems to be better. still haveing some problems for one reason or anouther it will flood itself out after sitting. i already rebuilt the pump but need to check again i dont know im getting really frustrated with this sled. it seems im not the only one that has a lot of problems with this. but i think im getting closer to actually gettin out on the trails with it i cant wait.

As far as I understand, there can be only 2 things that really flood the engine...a bad needle & seat or bad, mis-adjusted floats.

i have one other question, once i get this thing runnin good is it gonna be finiky or will it be pretty reliable? i know most of the reason it is not running properly now is my fault but after i get it goin is it gonna be good?

i did put the stock carbs on it i didnt before because the person i bought the sled from thought he was a rocket scientist and took a bunch of parts out of the carbs. thats why i initially wanted to do the 38's. i got all the missing parts and reassembled them and i am still havin minor problems now. im persistant and i will get it. i still need to figure out the 38's though cause i got another one that i dont have any carbs for.

well today i skipped work and worked on both my lf's i got both of them running good just some fine tuning when it gets a little colder. i put the stock powerjet carbs on the one and the 38's on the other. they both run well now. i completley started over with the fuel system on the first one i did. i adjusted the floats, adjusted the chokes, made sure fuel pump was good checked my carb boots for leaks and everything else i could think of. what i found is the floats were adjust just a little to high i made them so they were just slightly below parallel with the bowl. the one choke i found the plunger was bad even when fully shut with 1/8 to 1/4 slack in the cable when they are closed one of them was letting fuel leak through very slightly it was very hard to see with even with the carb in my hand. so i changed the plunger. the fuel pump was good. i also found that the brand new aftermarket carb mounts were leaking. when i would tighten them down they would bow in the middle just a little. threw them away and used the old stock ones. and i installed the airbox. that made a big difference in the way it would start. so after all that on the first one and got it runnin good i finished assembling the second engine installed it and installed the 38's with all the parts i got info on from here. i used a 300 main to start and it is still alittle rich but it 34 today so im gonna let that go until it gets a little colder. it runs good though starts good im very happy today got to take them both for a short ride and they did well. thanks for the help with the specks. now im on to my "racin" spitfire! a little project i worked on over the summer and now im working on clutchin it. i experimented with some of my own porting put a 34 flatslide on it, i need to do something with exhaust thats gonna be soon but everything so far has given it alot more power.
