Best Find of 2007 ????

My best find for the year of 2007....

Finding the John Deere Goldmine, remember those barn picks? The owner of this place without his help would not have allowed several of our beloved Deere's to stretch their legs again. Several forum members have aquired parts and sleds from there, that being me for one. To me this is my best find of the year and probably a lifetime on a find. The owner of this property has also recently given me access to another goldmine in Illinois, I havent shared this info yet, but I will very soon...

Mine would have to be finding the Cross Country. I was on the trail of a Liquidator, but when I got there he said he no longer had it and it was crashed and scraped. BUT he said I have this old Liquifire here I would sell you if you are interested. The conmdition was that I had to restore it. I said ok lets see it and it turned out to be #174 cross country needless to say I jumped at it, restored it and showed it for a few years! It is on the resto page here on the site. I no longer own it, but it has a great home from what I here.
I think it was 2001 or so not too sure tho. MAtt may be able to help on the year..

Mine are kind of small. I do like the little Spitfire I got for my 8 year old at the Jefferson show which is running great after getting the dirtiest carb I have ever seen by far cleaned and the right size belt on it. Also my 77 440 Liquifire with working mint original temp guage and 78 Liquifire radiator, I was going to use it for parts but it is just too nice and original. Duane

Just stole me a Kaw'!! Always wanted a 4/6 Invader, or at least an engine as those dual plug heads and twin pipes sure would look sweet under the hood of a Liquifire. I threw a half hearted bid at this one as Chicago is 5 hours from here and I really didn't want to have to sell the Ol' lady on another sled here at the southern most outpost of JDSleds. Wound up winning it for less than $500.00, and it looks squeaky clean. Last minute for "Find of 2007", but it certainly is the best find this year for me!!

One more pic, sorry couldn't help myself..... Oh, and yes it is "Green", so I don't think any "Permissable Subject" rules have been violated.

By far best find of 07 for me. Liquidator, 949miles original everything (except airbox), with cover........ $1700, 8hr drive oneway, but you can't count that. Road trips are price less.

Hey Guys,

My best find for 2007 would be my 84's. I picked up two 84 LF's in PA this spring, one nice and one totally apart for $1,200. I also picked up a decient running 84 Trailfire in MN for $600. I now have all the 84 chaincase sleds, working on the DD's.

Cari's 83 Sprintfire with 774 miles on it for $500.00 wasn't too bad a deal either. It's even on our Christmas card this year and runs great.

Biggest blunder of 2007? Letting Robb buy a 1982 Sprintifire right out from under my nose. Since no less than 3 local guys forwarded the ad to me, I dismissed it as unlikely since my rough 82 was also found locally. WRONG! LOL! At least I got to hit Rob up for hauling it...

Nicest parts haul in 07 would have to be the nice pile of stuff sent down from Ed thru Greg earlier this month. Had one of nicest 82 Sprintfire hoods I've ever seen in it.

Later Liquidator, and best of luck finding those "Best Finds" of 2008!

Best Find of 2007 ????

Well maybe I got in just under the wire here.

On Saturday just picked up a 1980 Liquifire with only 809 kms (500 miles) with perfect Trailfire seat on it and good backrest. Bought from original owner for only a $100.00 bucks ! Yeah there is catch.....look close and see something missing ?

No dash panel. There is no dash panel because there is no support for mount. There is no support because there is no motor installed. Got all the motor and parts etc with it .
The short story is when about 2 years old owner's son thought he could super-tune it to run even faster. He cut holes and drilled holes in air box and leaned it out.
Well a piston exited stage left and motor was removed. It then sat....and sat....and sat...and then I heard of it from a friend. So the old fellow knew it was nice and original but was well aware the repairs would cost fair bit.
He was most concerned that I would for sure fix it!!
Picture of it at home Saturday posted below.

Then while loading up this Liquifire I asked him if he knew of any other Deere snowmobiles around. He said a friend of his had bought similar one a few years after him. He thought it was a 1983 or 1984 !
I went to have look and it was a 1982 Liquifire that has sat outside for last 4-5 years behind this old shed. Went back yesterday with some gas/new plugs and tools and got it bark a bit.
Mother Nature has NOT been kind to this sled at all. Overall very nice body with only 1137 Kms (700 miles) on it.
No deal on it as of yet has been struck. The owner said it did not run good so said the hell with and threw out back of the shed. Will post picture of it also.

It just goes to show you how 2 sleds with almost same mileage and 2 owners that have 2 total extreme different levels of caring for their stuff.

As mentioned here is the 1980.

Here is the 1982 Liquifire. Hopefully it will have to sit here outside much longer. Maybe 2008 will bring 1982 back to me.

The year 2007 was the year of the Liquifire to me. With finding the hood from old 1980 race sled from Peter (That Girl Racing) and now finding this nice 1980 and may this 1982.

I we will see what 08 brings ?
