Strange Leaness Issue.....
You are creating more heat from the engine working hard than the cooling can handle.

Strange Leaness Issue.....
It got even hotter today..... And wouldn't come down until I let it sit.. I noticed the antifreeze level was low, so I left it idling with the radiator cap off and topped up with more antifreeze.. then took for a ride.. Thought maybe the antifreeze was too low....
No difference...... Open radiator cap...Level slightly low, but ok... Shut engine down, watch coolant disappear down the drain..... ????? So topped it back up and left it to sit overnight..... Wonder where it's going? Maybe boiling out?
I'm thinking either thermostat or water pump... It's been getting worse and worse, and today the snow was actually settled pretty good. So I'm thinking mechanical problem...... Oh well, more troubleshooting...

Matt,
It is natural for the coolant level to fall lower when the engine is off after it has been warmed up. The movement of the water pump raises the level when the engine is running. Do you have any coolant in the overflow bottle. It should be 1/2 full. You engine temp. could be higher than normal if your coolant level is low. You should bleed any air out of the system by opening the tiny bleeder screw in the top of the head.
