1974 JDX8 and 800 Dealer Installed Kit

Post by Deere Me »

I have been negotiating with a dealer here in Canada for his sled parts, he has this large box which I beleive was a "200" kit or something similar. I know there were heads, a stator and some other parts. What was the problem with these sleds? Why was this kit supplied? As usual this fellow thinks his parts are worth gold and we are far apart on the value of them, I figure their worth 1/10th of what he wants for them. There were several Prestolite CDI's which are now obselete with the Hewelt Fireplugs now being far superior. Any info on this kit greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Rich, Why would there be a tach in the kit?

So the two tachs do not interchange?

hmmm....

Wonder if I though away a good tach last month.

We are far apart on this deal and the kit is not complete, no CDI or tach and there may be other parts missing. He said he wanted 3 to 5, I assumed he meant $300 to $500, he actually meant $3000-$5000. He was not impressed when I offered him $200!! But at the tops to me the parts are only worth maybe $500. Lots of of obselete scrap metal.

Deere Me,

Dealers are some of hardest places to get NOS parts from. They have time, money and storage invested in them, and want to make that back.

Good luck, and keep talking to him, you might be able to come to terms.

Are there many parts left at the JD dealerships? Probably real hit and miss I suppose.

There`s not alot of parts left at the dealerships, but you may be surprised. I just bought a rear swingarm and shaft from my local Deere dealer. They really hate it when I come in, and make them do their job.

Just a Question on the X8, 800 Kit, My dad bought a new x8 and said that it was recalled to put a cdi ignition on it back in '75 when the sled was new,is this the same kit you guys are talking about? Because we still have this sled in the family and I was just wondering if this is what you are talking about?
