Thunder Jet

Post by S_Kyle »

On friday I am going to a small shop to look at what he has for deere parts/ sleds. I was told the guy also has a 650 thunder jet motor up in the attic. I don't know much about them beside they were fast for there day.

I was wondering what a fair price would be for the motor if he will part with it. You never know when one might find a thunderjet with no motor. Any on know how many of these were made?

I'm no Thunder Jet expert, but this is what I can tell you. Some had a type of fuel injection system [pumpers] that gave a fair bit of grief, hard to keep running. But when they ran they gave the competition more grief. I also believe that you could almost build a chassis from repopped parts, check around the net. If you get serious I can put you in contact with some T'Jet experts from out here.

i can get a good saber jet body, would this motor fit in to the body or would I have to hack it to peices just to make it fit.

The Thunderjet is a racer. Like the 'Dator, they probably don't make good trail sleds without a lot of tuning/maintenance. Plus, putting a T-jet motor into anything else is probably sacrilege to their fans.

The thing might be more trouble than it's worth, but since I am going there anyway it never hurts to ask.

If you need to unload the motor I can give it a good home!
