Pete, the Super Brute is coming along nicely! Looks like you are on pace to have it at the vintage derby. Is it going to be a driver or a show sled? At any rate it is nice. What size motor is this one?

Richard, I'm not sure if it'll be ready for the derby....but I'll give it my best shot. I'd like it to look like a show sled, however I do plan on riding it now and then. I'm not much into trailer queens. I try to fix my sleds up fairly nice yet if you can't ride them a bit, what's the point of havin them? The Super Brute is a 295. I have the proper Sachs 340 as well as a 440C which I could have used to turn it into a quicker sled, however Al K. told me the 295 was built in smaller numbers than the larger ones, so I decided to keep it stock. I've got NOS cylinders, heads, pistons and crankshaft for it.....so the engine should be like new when I get her together. I doubt it'll be very quick though. If I don't have it ready for the derby, you can stop by my shop after the ride and take a peek at it. By the way, there's a Blast from the Past social on in Roblin in the evening after the ride and rumour has it that the local snowmobile club is giving away a vintage sled during the social (not sure if it's gonna be a draw, an auction, or just some kinda door prize). I think it's an old Eaton's Viking in decent, but not perfect condition

Sounds like a blast. I have been spreading the word to all the guys I know that have old sleds around here. I'm working on getting a co-worker to bring his Elite out for the ride.

This project is really dragging out....sometimes it seems like I'll never finish. Unfortunately, work interferes with my project time. At least I finally have the seat and side panels on and the suspension is ready to install tomorrow.

very nice sled. have the exact same model. i did some work on my dads but not as much as you by the look of it. had a hard time finding a winshield for it but eventually did. another problem we had was with the plastic gas tank cracking.

I got the engine together with NOS pistons and cylinders. Still waiting for a new recoil spring and some plug caps to arrive...then it's time to plant it into the chassis. Maybe I'll have this thing running for the Feb 2 vintage derby yet.

Pete, is that a NOS tail light lens I see? Or just a good used one? What did you pick up for goodies at Agri-Sport? Hope your brother is well too.

No, I wish it was an NOS T/L assembly. I have an NOS lens, but my t/l housing is busted up and I've yet to find a good one. So I settled for a complete taillight from an old Yamaha Phazer. It fit quite nicely without many mods and if I ever find a proper housing, I can change it later. Didn't feel too quilty using a Phaser T/L since Yamaha certainly stole alot of Super Brute design cues when they built the Phazer. Never did get to Agri Sports as I managed to pick up everything I needed at Sno World in Yorkton on the way into Regina.....man, they have lots of stuff there too. I've been fighting with that Sachs recoil spring for the last hour and still haven't managed to fit it into the rewind pulley....it's gotta be the toughest recoil spring I've ever dealt with as it's already taken a few DNA samples from my fingers.

Check out todays Leader Post, there's a good article on the vintage drags at Govan ,as well as a great picture of Al K., sitting on one of his Alouttes.

I'd sure like to see the article with Al and his Alouette, but nobody in my town sells the Leader Post. I tried viewing it online and was unsuccessful...guess you have to subscribe. Any chance you could save a copy and bring it when you come to the derby? I plan on bringing my Super Brute to Govan and earl Grey for the drags. Might actually race it if it runs well. Hopefully will bring the Sunfire as well.

I'll bring you a copy up. We won't be ther on Sunday ,as Richard has to take a safety course for work. I should have the RV running this week end, I hope!!
I believe Johnny Kweens may have a surprise for us as well! If it's done????

Looking forward to seeing the paper with Al's pic. Now I wonder what John has in store for us? No doubt, some blisteringly fast Ski Doo. This thing's finally starting to resemble a snowmobile. I need another day or two to finish up the engine and exhaust install, then the hood goes on. I'm really not looking forward to installing the hood decals as it's always difficult to prevent air bubbles in decals as huge as those.

It's finally done.......just in time for our vintage derby this coming Saturday. It's a fun little sled to ride and seems to have lots of zip for a 295.
