60 to maybe 70 MPH depending on conditions would be a good guess..

Peter if you look at the fact his Trailfire runs "85mph". A liquifire should run over 100mph at half throttle.

 I'm lucky to get my Trailfire to go 70mph with 60mph winds at my back and pefect conditions, which would be a truck towing me.

Hmmm? sounds like some incredibly fast Sportfires out there! I did some quick caculations based on the Sportfire having 48 hp in stock form and the Liquifire having 65 hp and it would appear that the Liquifire should be able to run 119.16 mph if a Sportfire can do 88 mph. And I didn't even factor in the 10 % overdrive clutch ratio of the 82-84 Liqs......Oh well, I guess the aerodynamic drag at such stellar speeds would probably eat up that advantage anyways. Really guys, how steep was the downhill run? The best I've ever seen a new Sportfire run was approx 77 mph according to the speedo on a level hard pack run....and I'd bet the speedo was exagerating things at least a wee bit.

i was on flat ground, it was the start of the year and i had my old helmet on, (just the flap shield) i was going so fast it caught in the wind jerked my head back hard,
it will really run 85 on flat ground no wind, the trailfires can keep up to
i was riding with a 600 ski summit and that guy said that john deere i have is very fast

Hi Guys,

Peter (4/6) I think the Sports are only 42 hp, but I agree the LF's were about 65 hp.

I hate to ask this again, but were you guys reading the larger metric numbers on the speedo? MPH are the smaller numbers on the inside ring of the speedo display.

Smit, I highly doubt a stock 38 hp Trailfire will hit 85. My stock 80 LF with a freash motor would only hit slightly better than that. 85 KPH is about 60 MPH.

I would guess that a Sporty would top out in the 65 to 70 mph range based the gearing, multi angle helix and hp of the sled. I am better that Rich knows for sure since he was there...

I think the trick is not to radar the sleds while they are in the back of trucks going down the highway

Years ago (1991-93) had a bit of an association with the police. We used the a radar gun over the weekend clocking some cars & sleds. A friend of mine and his cousin were there that day.

We goofed around clocking our cars coming down the paved road and then went onto the sleds through a packed path in huge long wheat stubble field. I would guess around 3/4- 1 mile in length.
My buddy came across the field on his 75 340 El Tigre "Z" with a best of 84 mph.
The cousin had a 1982 Sportfire that we clocked at best of 71 mph. I had my 79 340 Trailfire still then and it ran 61 mph.

Years before that when our 80 Liquifire drag with stock gears ran like 82 mph. Then years later did a best of 88-89 mph if I recall.

Here is picture of the my buddy Dean's "Z". WOW I loved that sled. It rocked twin plug motor looked cool too!
