Sabre Jet

Would anyone happen to know where a guy could find a gas tank for a Sno Jet, Sabre jet. A buddy of mine needs one. He says the Sabre Jet tank is different somehow than the other Sno jet tanks. Thanks.

Can you post a pic of the tank? I doubt I have one, but if I know what it looks like, it'd help me in my search. Is it a plastic tank? A buddy of mine is donating a Sno Jet Star Jet 338 to be auctioned off at our vintage sled derby on Feb 2. The tank in it is an integral part of the belly pan. It had so much rust inside it that it kept plugging up the fuel filter every five miles. I was at his shop yesterday and he cut a 5" x 8" hole in the top of the tank and cleaned it up real nice, then welded it closed. Seemed like the only solution as it's kinda hard to fit your fist into the filler neck. That thing goes way too fast for a bogie wheel suspended sled with such a high center of gravity, but it's sure fun.

I have seen a couple of old machines manufactured with an integrated fuel tank (like the Sno-Jet) that had been modified because of rust or punctured bellypans.

What they did was cut the entire top out of the tank which exposed the inside of the tank or the bellypan as we know it. Then they set in that void a plastic tank from a newer sled and secured it with a strap. One example used a Scorpion Stinger tank and another used a Skidoo Oly tank.

Not only did this eliminate the rust and puncture problems in the future but if done with some care looked very nice.

As the bottom and all the sides of the original frame that formed the tank were still there I don't think that the structural integrity of the bulkhead was compromised.

I haven't seen the tank so I have no pictures, but he says it's plastic. He has looked at other Sno Jet tanks and he says they're all different. This one is supposed to be specific to the Sabre, or so he says.

He also said the tank was under the handle bars. Please note that I am not familiar with the Sno jets, so I'm only going by what he said.

Sabre Jets are very nice sleds and pretty rare to boot.
