My Sportfire Smokes quite a bit on a cold start up. The plugs show a lil oil on them, but not enough to keep it from starting the next time. Do they all do this? I might mix a scosche over the recommended 50:1, but not much. I also use Stihl 2cycle oil.

What does the ashless oil do for it?

What do you run in yours? I got this sled, with no manuals, and only the knowledge it needs 2cycle oil, and to be a 50:1 mix.... So I have been told YamaLube is good, but would like more than one opinion.

Really any 2 stoke will work as long as it's tc-w3. I personally run Valvoline swowmobile oil mainly because I can get it reasonable, and have had no problems with it.

As my Grandfather used to say, " Motor oil is motor oil. All that maters is that it is clean and you have enough in there."
I believe the same holds true for 2-stroke oil. As long as it meets modern specs (TC-W3) and you mix it at 50:1 you will be fine.
What do I use? Whatever is on sale. Last case I bought was at the local Farm Supply store. They had Citco at $1.69/qt in case quanity. Before that it was Texaco. I bet it all comes from the same plant anyway.
Funny sidebar to share. A friend, who does everything by the book, ran his oil at 20:1 as that is what his OM said to do. So he reads on-line about Blue Marble and bites.
Now the bottle says use at 50:1 so he does. And he reports to me that this new oil is so much better than the other stuff as his sled hardly smokes at all! And he is yet to foul out a plug. I 've tried to tell him that if he ran 50:1 with his old oil he would have seen the same results.
And the price of that stuff... maybe you racing guys with the high dollar mills can attest to the cost vs benifits of it but me and my 40 hp stock engine are in the same corner as Grandpa.

The one I am selling, I only have the one. I keep telling myself not to sell it, the buyer is to meet with me Saturday morning. I believe the Sled is worth $500, but then there is the replace-a-bility factor, "What can I replace it with, that is just as good, or better?" I kinda never meant for it to sell thats why i put the higher tag on it!!!smit-trailfire wrote: are you talking about the one you sold, or do you have another,

I would like something faster, but I do like this sled. I really don't want to move up to a liquid cooled one, because there is just more to go wrong. *sigh* Maybe I should just keep it. I dunno.
